TUNKHANNOCK -- While most of us are looking forward to Thanksgiving, there are those who down right dread it.

That would be turkeys, of course, who must pay the ultimate price for that delicious meal!

But up in Wyoming County, one turkey says the holiday is for the birds and he's making a break for it.

We all know Thanksgiving is really all about the food.

Most of us will find ourselves more stuffed than the turkey.

Unfortunately, it’s no special treat for the bird of the day, who must meet its fate before it meets the plate.

That might be why this turkey isn’t such a bird brain after all.

He’s been seen strutting around Tunkhannock; maybe trying to dodge Thanksgiving dinner?

“Saw the turkey about 8 o’clock this morning, making a quick getaway,” said John Colley.

Well, the feathery gent sure has got a pecking order of fans, rooting for his escape.

“We saw the police officer on Facebook chasing him down the street and we said go turkey go!” said Crystal Bernoski.

Officer Keith Carpenter says the friendly fowl seems to be here looking for other birds of a feather to fly the coop with him.

“He greets the members of the court house as they come out of the court house, Pine Street, Brick’s parking lot, the people coming out,” said Officer Carpenter. “Greeting kids when they get off the school bus.”

The turkey has been seen trotting down Route 6; possibly window shopping for Christmas?

“People have said they’ve seen him at the Dietrich theater, he’s been spotted at the court house,” said Jeanette Dailey. “He’s just been here, there and everywhere.”

He was even spotted outside the Hampton Inn.

Guests here believe he was trying to get a nest for the night.

“I mean, I would have, continental breakfast, why wouldn’t you?” said guest Ryan Shearer.

Folks say he’s not ruffling anyone’s feathers.

Not only is he welcome to stay, they’ve even given him a name.

“I think the public starting calling him Hector after the mayor had pardoned him for Thanksgiving and now he’s free to roam the town as he pleases,” said Officer Carpenter.

Well Hector, Happy Thanksgiving.
