EAST STROUDSBURG -- Generous donations from one church in Monroe County will help feed dozens of families from the Poconos Head Start program.
A truckload of Thanksgiving feasts arrived at Monroe County's Head Start in East Stroudsburg.
Each box was packaged up nicely by the congregation at Community Church. It's the first time the church from the Mount Pocono area is helping feed families for the holiday.
"Our church came together collectively and we started an initiation to say that everything we do from now on is to try and help out the community," said Community Church Campus Pastor Nathaniel Tesegay.
With donations from the congregation, the church was able to provide 25 Thanksgiving' for families at Head Start and donated 175 other boxes across the county.
Eligh Rivera, age 11, says he's happy to help others.
"They'll be able to celebrate how thankful they are over a meal with their family and they won't have to starve, to wait and wait for more food to come," said Rivera.
Each of these boxes already filled with lots of food for the holiday is going to be topped off with that Thanksgiving turkey. Donations will cover the costs of the birds, giving families who rely on Head Start one less thing to worry about.
"Families that we serve throughout the year, this can be a very stressful time of year for them, juggling the cost of keeping their families warm, healthcare issues," said Tim Lee of Pocono Services for Families and Children.
Community Church hopes to feed 1,000 families this holiday season and is hoping their spirit of giving spreads throughout the Poconos.
