STROUD TOWNSHIP -- One of the biggest shopping days of the year is around the corner and stores are already finding ways to reel you in before Thanksgiving

Black Friday, the traditional day for big bargains, is one week away but as we've seen over the last couple of years, the doorbusters and sales are happening earlier and earlier.

It's that time of the year again when many people shop until they drop, and this year, stores are already trying to get your cash.

Black Friday may still be a few days away but stores at the Stroud Mall are giving shoppers many reasons to start their holiday shopping early.

"That's why we're out here shopping to see what's better today or Black Friday," said Krista Borger of Kunkletown.

Borger and her sister Sierra plan to shop now and on Black Friday. They're both hoping these deals get even better.

"I think most of them will. Yeah, it will definitely get better, I think, as it comes closer to time," said Sierra Borger.

Stores at the Stroud Mall like Sears and other department stores plan to open for Black Friday on Thanksgiving night and while a lot of shoppers do like that idea, some shoppers we talked to say there are other days to get your holiday shopping done.

Some people hit the stores now to get a jump start on their shopping because they have no plans to come back next week.

"I don't believe that you get the best deal. I just don't. I prefer to be with my family those couple of days," said Lilliana Nowacki of Stroudsburg.

Small shops have to go the extra mile to compete with the major retailers around the holidays.

"Offer exceptional service, try to keep the prices a little bit lower, and just be there. Be there for the people, the customers," said Ernest Munoz of Beautiful Discoveries.

Stores like Fitzpatrick's Irish and Celtic Shop in downtown Stroudsburg say they rely on their loyal customers this time of year. Paula Fitzpatrick says she can't offer deals like this, so she keeps her store closed on Black Friday.

"You can't contend with these people, like you know, they are big corporations and stuff like that. So, yeah that's why I don't even try," laughed Paula Fitzpatrick.

At the Shoppes at Montage, they haven't released times yet for when the stores plan to open, but like the malls, the outlets, and other shopping centers, they will probably be packed by this time next week.
