DICKSON CITY -- Gibbons Ford in Dickson City has seen a lot of ups and downs since it first opened in the 1940s. It moved to its current location about 20 years ago.

"Right now the automobile industry nationwide is the best it's been since 2008," said Gibbons Ford owner John Grow.

Gibbons is gearing up for its biggest expansion yet. A dealership three times the size of the one on Main Street.

It will only be about a half mile away along Viewmont Drive on part of a 99-acre plot of land, the biggest piece of land still left undeveloped in Dickson City.

"There`s still about 90 acres available for development up there and we`re already getting calls from professional people who are looking to locate up there," Grow added.

Grow said two medical practices are interested in building on the land. The new Ford dealership will get rid of some obstacles for development there. Gibbons is building an access road and making it easier for drivers on Viewmont Drive.

Gibbons Ford agreed to put a traffic light next to where the dealership will be.

"Because coming out of Staples, you just can`t get out of there. They will have to put in a traffic light. That will be a big improvement," said Dante Orazzi of Greenfield Township.

Gibbons customers think it's only a matter of time until the rest of the Viewmont Drive land is developed. Someone just needed to take the first step.

"I think it`s a good idea. Give them more space for showroom space and more visibility for a customer base. I think it`s a great idea," Orazzi added.
