LOYALSOCK TOWNSHIP -- Now that the weather is getting colder, people are thinking about their cars.

Most automotive shops will tell you it is important to winterize your vehicle.

Many car dealerships in our area were busy on Thursday with customers getting their batteries checked, and winter tires put on their vehicles.

Automotive shops say winterizing your car does not take long and is necessary.

As the temperatures drop, business goes up at Kost Tire and Auto Service near Williamsport. With our Stormtracker 16 meteorologists predicting snow, people want to make sure their vehicles are ready for the weather.

"Today especially we have a rush. It's panic city. Oh, my God, there's snow!"

Andy Ramirez works on countless vehicles during this time of the year. He says he checks the wiper blades and fluid levels on everyone's vehicles.

"Make sure it's full, make sure it's good."

Ramirez says it's also important to make sure your vehicle's battery is strong.

"Batteries lose a lot of their power when the weather gets cold. Not only does the battery lose its power, all your fluids get cold and they get thick. So it's harder for the battery and the starter to actually turn the engine over."

Ramirez says the thing that's keeping them busiest right now is putting winter tires on people's vehicles.

"We probably installed three, four sets of winter tires already," Ramirez said.

"They help you by keeping your car on the road and drive more safely," said Debra Widell of Avis.

Widell recommends warming up your vehicle before you leave to go anywhere. She also says she keeps a blanket and food in her car just in case.

"I won't be stranded anywhere in the cold."

Car winterization is something many places do for free when you bring your vehicle in to get serviced, but some places charge about $20 to $30 for winterization services
