SCRANTON -- Scranton Police are investigating some cases of teenagers getting mugged. And in one case the crooks targeted the victim's expensive sneakers.

According to Scranton Police that mugging happened along Providence Road, not far from Scranton High School. A 15-year-old student was jumped on his way home from school Monday.

Police said two other robberies also happened that day within hours of each other.

For 23 years, Louis Adamo has stood on Providence Road when school lets out. Student safety is his number one priority.

"It does surprise me because I've never seen that in all the years I've been here," Adamo said.

Adamo was surprised to hear that a 15-year-old high school student was mugged right by his intersection on Providence Road. The boy was walking home from school Monday afternoon when police said he was attacked from behind by 3 or 4 men.

"I make sure I know everybody that goes through by this time, after so many years I've been here. But I didn't see anything at all," Adamo added.

According to Scranton Police, the mugging happened about 30 minutes after Adamo left his post.

The robbers took the boy's Air Jordan sneakers. Then with a few bumps and bruises, he walked home barefoot and called police.

About a half hour later and only about a half mile away another young man, this time a 19-year-old on his way home from work had something very similar happen to him.

Police say the young man, who lives a few blocks away from his workplace on Capouse Avenue, was also jumped from behind. He told officers they looked like teenagers. They knocked him to the ground, stomped on his head, then stole his cellphone.

Scranton police said, so far they don't have any evidence to suggest the two muggings are related.

Still, they are making some people think twice about their safety on Scranton streets.

"I was in shock and I was upset that these things really do happen," said Deborah Monaco of Scranton.

Scranton Police said they received a third report of a robbery on Monday night in west Scranton. It happened inside a home on Luzerne Street. One of the robbery suspects has been arrested and charged.
