At the start of the 2014-2015 basketball season the Misericordia University Cougars men's team is healthy and deep. Four starters return from a team that lost in the conference championship game. A big reason why All MAC-Freedom Conference 1st team forward Steve Ware broke his hand with 6 minutes left in the contest.

"My hands a lot better now. It did hurt having to watch those last few minutes, but you know there's not much I can do about it then just build on it," said Steve Ware.

With two first place votes in the pre-season rankings Misericordia is opening some eyes, but head coach Trevor Woodruff now in his 11th year says it's only on paper you have to go play the games.

"Once the games start it doesn't really matter. We're going to have to show up every night. Certainly it puts somewhat of a bull's eye on your back. Teams look at those rankings just like we do, and they say we'll we're supposed to lose to Misericordia let's find out," said Trevor Woodruff.

Packed into those 16 wins a year ago-10 wins here at home inside the Anderson Center. Coach Woodruff he loves the home court advantage, but knows his team must get better on the road.

"If your going to win on the road there's a few things you have to do-# 1 your defense has to travel typically you're not going to shoot the ball well on the road so you have to play defense," added Trevor.

One guy to be counted on for big minutes and defense is 6'11" freshman James Hawk from Tunkhannock. He missed all of last season with an ankle injury.

"Yes we're definitely working hard at practice trying to get in shape for the season and get this chemistry down and we'll be out there," said James Hawk.

The season starts on the road November 15th in Chester for a tournament then it's back home November 19th to face the University of Scranton.
