Veterans Day is Tuesday but people in our area are already doing their part to honor men and women who served our country.

In Lackawanna County, Carbondale Area High School held its annual Veterans Day program Monday morning. This year's theme was local military history.

Col. Michael Konzman who commands the Army National Guard's 55th Brigade in Lackawanna County gave the keynote address. He spoke about the sacrifices area National Guardsmen have made since 9/11.

Also in Lackawanna County, veterans who have fallen on hard times were not forgotten in Scranton.

A group of volunteers hosted a luncheon Monday afternoon at the St. Francis Commons transitional shelter for homeless veterans along Penn Avenue.

This was part of a national day of action organized by lawyers across the country. O'Malley and Langan set up this luncheon and donated clothes and toiletries to the vets.

The group is also providing dinner to veterans Monday night in scranton.

In Luzerne County, an annual Veterans Day assembly was held at Dallas Middle School.

The program included a tribute to the American flag and a commemoration of the 200th anniversary of the Star - Spangled Banner.

Students also raised nearly $2,000 to make a donation to the K9's for Warriors charity.
