LA PLUME -- This is the 3-doodler! The maker claims, it's a 3D pen. You don't just draw things with it, you build things! 3D objects that are made from your imagination! It works by heating plastic sticks which you load into the pen.  There's two different types of plastic stick you can use with it, one is abs and the other is pla.  Depending on what you want to make, you should use one or the other.  The directions explain inside.  Also, adjusting the heat is important, depending on the plastic you use.

To test 3doodler, Newswatch 16 went to the art department at Keystone College.  The Art Department works with 2D art and 3D art.  The students have made some pretty interesting things with their 3D printer! But how would they like a 3D pen?

Once it's assembled, it's time to start building 3D art.  One by one, each art student spent time drawing with the 3D pen.

This test took a lot of time! According to the art students, the pen handles more like a glue gun and the heated plastic comes out very slowly.  Each student had a hard time building anything with it.  Some came back to try it, twice and even three times.

Even the art professors had a difficult time drawing with the 3D pen. After spending a good portion of the afternoon with these art students, we finally asked the important question, does it really work?

The art department at Keystone College doesn't like the 3doodler and give it thumbs down.
