MIFFLIN TOWNSHIP -- Police were called to the scene of a shooting in Columbia County.

Police said a person who confronted suspected trespassers was shot in the face.

The shooting took place on private property along Snyder School Road, near Mifflinville, just before noon on Sunday.

Detectives have not said who the victim of the shooting is, but they are still looking for a white Ford pickup truck that the shooter may be driving.

Police in Columbia County say the victim was shot through a car window after confronting suspected trespassers near the property's tree line.

As the victim was taken to the hospital, police started looking for a white Ford pickup truck.

Snyder School Road was closed for hours as people who live in the area tried to find another way home.

"[I'm] very surprised. You don't really see a lot of that happening around here," said neighbor Sarah Wagner.

Neighbors say, while Snyder School Road is normally a quiet place, this isn't the first sign of trouble here. Last month, a woman reported that someone tried to break into her home, the very same home where the shooting took place.

"We have been locking our doors. Every night making sure everything is locked."

Police would not comment on any connection between the reported home invasion and the shooting, or say if the gunshot victim was a resident of the home.

Helen Kelchner says, for generations, her family has grown corn, oats, and wheat here and nothing much happened.

"My brother lives right next to that house. It's terrible. It's frightening," Kelchner said.

Now she is on the lookout, wondering if the crime will continue in her neighborhood.
