JESSUP -- Our Newswatch 16 cameras caught a fairly new resident of Lackawanna County's mid-valley.

A full-grown American Bald Eagle has made the Lackawanna River bank his new home.

If you're pumping gas at Cousin's Convenient Market in Jessup in the early afternoon you may see a blur of black and white out of the corner of your eye.

After hearing about him for several months, our Newswatch 16 cameras finally caught a few seconds of a bald eagle who has made the mid-valley his home.

"Unusual, I've never seen anything like it.  I was like extremely shocked, I couldn't believe what I was seeing when I first saw it," said April Commodario.

Commodario works at Cousin's and said she sees the bald eagle a few times a week. He started showing up this spring. Now, he's a regular.

People in Jessup and Peckville don't stop and stare as much as they used to. The bald eagle has become a pretty common sight along the Lackawanna River Heritage Trail in the mid-valley.

Bernard Cooper always looks for him on his morning dog walks.

"It's the symbol of our country, when I go up to Canada there are many many of them. I don't know why there aren't more of them around here," Cooper said.

According to the PA Game Commission, the bald eagle population has rebounded over the past few decades. But, our Lackawanna eagle is still pretty rare.
