EAST BUFFALO TOWNSHIP -- 'Tis the season for all the ghouls and goblins to dress up and get some candy. But while trick-or-treating is a fun time for kids, it can also be dangerous.

Halloween is a dream come true for many kids. They get to dress up like their favorite superhero or princess and eat candy! Trick-or-treating can be a lot of fun, but it can also be dangerous, especially when it comes to candy.

"Let your parents look over your stuff first before you partake in anything you've received," Buffalo Valley Regional Police Chief Paul Yost said.

Chief Yost recommends waiting to eat your candy until you get home. He also recommends wearing brightly colored costumes. If that is not possible, carry flashlights or wear something reflective. Kelly Bogle of Milton agrees.

"We definitely make sure we have the reflective gear, definitely have the necklaces and bracelets," Bogle said.

Chief Yost says something many people don't think of is bringing their pets inside. He says pets tend to get harassed on Halloween.

The chief also has a message for drivers this Halloween. He wants people to be careful and watch out for trick-or-treaters who might be crossing the roads.

"You're going to have people cutting across between house and house because they see another place with the porch light on," Yost said.

And Bogle said her family has their own Halloween safety tips.

"We usually go in downtown Milton there where everybody usually sits out and gives out candy. We don't go to any doors and knock," Bogle said.

Police also advise you to use common sense, adult supervision...and have a great time!
