BARRETT TOWNSHIP -- State police say a resident made a possible sighting of Eric Frein early Tuesday afternoon.

Troopers said it happened in Barrett Township near Route 390.

As the manhunt for alleged cop killer Eric Frein continues in the Poconos, the search area has shifted and expanded.

The latest reported sighting was right along Route 390.

State police say it happened very close to where they have set up a base. But troopers say they are looking for Frein in four different townships, making the scope of this search much larger than it had been.

Helicopters were in the air once again over Barrett Township, right around Route 390 where troopers say a possible sighting of Eric Frein was reported in the afternoon.

For weeks, troopers focused their manhunt on a five-mile radius in the area of Snow Hill Road near Canadensis, believing Frein was likely in this area right around the Monroe County line.

But since the early weeks of the manhunt, that search area has shifted and changed, now including more than just the areas of Routes 447 and 390.

It is much more spread out and less visible on most drives through the Poconos.

Carol Shields of Mountainhome says it's a tough task, especially in a community with so many seasonal and vacant homes.

"There are 1,400 possible buildings, homes, summer homes, hunting cabins he could be scoping out and be staying in. How do you find him?"

The search area shifted to Swiftwater about a week and a half ago after a possible sighting of Frein near Pocono Mountain East High School.

Troopers are now covering ground in at least four townships. That's about 133 square miles in Monroe County.

It's a lot of ground to cover for the about 150 state troopers assigned to the search each day.

"I just hope they catch him soon because we're living in fear right now," said Yvonne Sanchez of Coolbaugh Township. "When you least expect it, they're behind you and you say, 'Oh, my goodness.'"

But as the scope of the search widens, many say they still believe Frein remains in the woods near his home.

"I hear a lot going on, really, most of it is in the Canadensis area. Helicopters are flying around," said Wade Rinker.

Troopers were also seen going to search the area of the old Buck Hill Falls Inn Tuesday afternoon, and troopers were looking around Penn Hills Resort Tuesday morning.
