BARRETT TOWNSHIP -- A group in part of the search area in Monroe County is helping police protect themselves during the manhunt for accused cop killer Eric Frein.

"Barrett Proud" t-shirts were up for sale Saturday at the Forks at Buck Hill Inn in Mountainhome, helping to pay for bulletproof vests for the township's police department.

Each vest is designed to protect officers from a high caliber bullet like the ones used in some hunting rifles.

Barrett Township police already bought those vests and have been wearing them during the manhunt. Each one cost $1,300.

"And it's important times like these when we all pull together when we become unified. You don't see this around a lot in communities anymore and that's why Barrett is special," said Barrett Township Police Chief Steven Williams.

Those "Barrett Proud" shirts will be on sale Sunday at a "Trunk or Treat" event from 2 to 4 p.m. at Monsignor McHugh School located at 212 Route 390, Cresco.
