A man in the Poconos is facing charges of lying to police about alleged cop killer Eric Frein.

State police say Michael Abuiso, 48, told officers back in the summer Frein asked Abuiso to get him fake IDs.

Police say that story was not true.

Investigators say Abuiso lied to police when he said Frein approached him at Abuiso’s mother's home in Canadensis; her home sits around the corner from Frein’s parents’ home.

Abuiso’s mother says her son struggles with drug addiction.

“He’s basically a good kid. He’s a good son, very helpful, helped anybody that needed help. Just like I said, he got mixed up with the drugs,” said Shirley Abuiso.

State police say Abuiso told that fake story back in September, first to Barrett Township police, then to troopers.

Court papers state Abuiso says Frein came up to him sometime in July or August, saying he read in the paper about Abuiso getting arrested for forging prescriptions.

Abuiso said Frein wanted to know if Abuiso could make fake IDs for Frein because he was going on a trip to Canada.

Abuiso said Frein then “went on a tirade” about police, calling them “self-righteous pigs” and “started talking about "killing cops.”

Abuiso said Frein stated “there are a few state troopers that think they are mightier than God,” but said Frein “did not mention a trooper specifically.”

When police told Abuiso they found discrepancies in his story, he then admitted the information was false and said he was sorry.

“It’s unfortunate. He had a problem with drugs, prescription drugs, and that led to him doing things he shouldn’t have done,” said his mother.

Abuiso is locked up at the Monroe County Prison on an unrelated charge.
