LUZERNE -- Police are looking for whoever broke into a home in Luzerne County then beat and tied up the person living there.
Investigators say the victim was hit in the head with brass knuckles but he is recovering.
Troopers took pictures of evidence on the porch of the small home on Willard Street in Luzerne.
According to police, around 9:45 p.m. Tuesday a home intruder knocked on the door, forced his way in, threw the man inside over a couch, then tied him up with an extension cord.
The victim told police he was hit in the head with brass knuckles before the intruder took off with his wallet and his car.
John Sulkowski lives a few doors away.
"I don't know what the circumstances were for that kind of a beating, but no one deserves to get beat up with brass knuckles. I hope they catch whoever did that and justice is served."
According to police the home intruder claimed he was from Hazleton when he was knocking on the door and was last seen wearing a white hoodie.
Authorities say the victim's stolen car was found a few blocks away abandoned in the parking lot of a shopping plaza.
"It's not exactly a small town, but we're all very close and it's just surprising that it's happening here," said Luzerne resident Mark Orosz.
Orosz and Edna Olson say they're concerned even though police believe this home invasion was not a random crime.
"People are getting so desperate to get money for drugs or the price of food, really anything," Olson said.
Police say the victim will recover from his injuries but they're still trying to figure out who's involved and what the motive is behind this home invasion.
