MONROE COUNTY -- The search for Eric Matthew Frein has shifted as bloodhounds, troopers, and federal agents converge in the Swiftwater area.
For weeks, there was heavy police presence in the Canadensis area of Monroe County.
"I don't believe they have him surrounded. I don't think he's here. I think he's somewhere else. I don't know where, but he's not here," said one woman who lives in the area.
"The shifting, the zig-zagging, it makes no sense. There's no way this guy could be outmaneuvering that many people and that many search dogs," said Steve Berger of Paradise Township.
Students from Monsignor McHugh School and Evergreen Community Charter School stayed home again because of the search for Frein in the area Tuesday.
Pocono Mountain Schools were closed as well Tuesday, for the fifth time since the manhunt began.
"I know the troopers are doing the best that they can to make us safe and I don't think we have anything to worry about at this time," said Julia Deannuntis of Tobyhanna.
Earlier this month, the state Game Commission temporarily banned hunting and trapping in parts of Monroe and Pike counties as investigators searched the woods for Frein. Tuesday, the Game Commission lifted those restrictions in all of Pike County, but they do remain in three townships in Monroe County: Paradise, Price, and Barrett Townships. As always, game commissioners remind people if you see anything suspicious in the woods, call police.
"I don't know how it's all going to play out, but it certainly is interesting, the whole scene is just bizarre, you know?" said Berger.
Pocono Mountain School District officials said that classes will be held on Wednesday. Evergreen Charter School will also be in session.
