Family Devastated Over Missing Goat

PIATT TOWNSHIP -- The owners of a missing goat in Lycoming County hope the possibility of a reward will help bring their pet back to them. Newswatch 16 told you on Friday that Petunia, the goat, has been missing since early last week. The animal's owners believe it was stolen.

Nancy Frye says her four goats are considered part of the family and she was devastated when one of them went missing last week. Now she's considering offering a reward to help bring Petunia back.

Nancy Frye feeds her pet goats Tucker, Thing One, and Thing Two out in the field behind her home near Jersey Shore, but it's her missing goat that's on her mind.

"Her name is Petunia and she's all white and she is very sweet," said Nancy Frye of Piatt Township.

Petunia is a 5-year-old, all-white Nubian goat who went missing last Monday.

"It is an electric fence. They are secure. She never went out unless we opened the gate," said Frye.

Frye went searching for Petunia.

"There's just, there is nothing. She’s just gone," said Frye.

With no sign that Petunia escaped on her own, Frye called state police.

"The more I thought about it, I think she was stolen," said Frye.

When Petunia went missing, Frye noticed the other goats were acting a little odd. They weren't going out to play in the field. Instead, they stayed closer to the main gate. Frye thinks they were waiting for Petunia to be brought back.

Frye is afraid someone took Petunia for some sort of Halloween ritual. Now she is considering offering a reward if Petunia is brought home safely.

"For information or anything I would give a reward. I can't put a price on it, but it would just be nice to know she is okay." said Frye.

"It's just baffling to me and you can't quite wrap your head around why someone would take someone's goat," said Whitney Quiggle from Lycoming County SPCA.

Quiggle works at the Lycoming County SPCA. She often watches the goats for Frye and says Frye treats the goats like part of her family.

"She's actually kind of like a dog. She would follow you around. She is usually there to greet me," said Quiggle.

"I just hope somebody has her that loves her and is taking care of her because she was just super, super sweet. She is sweet," said Frye.

Again, Frye says she has considered offering a reward if someone brings her goat Petunia home safely. If you have seen Petunia you are asked to call state police at 570-368-5700.
