JIM THORPE -- Autumn is one of the most popular times of the year to visit Jim Thorpe in Carbon County.

According to the locals, as the trees explode with color, tourists by the thousands flock to the area.

"I love it. It's quaint. It's low key. The people are neat, really really nice people and it's just beautiful," said Steve Shultz of Lebanon.

The annual Foliage Festival comes the first three weekends of every October in Jim Thorpe as people enjoy the shops, historic tours, music, and of course, the leaf peeping.

"I probably would zip up here in a minute and live, we would," laughed Dianne Shultz of Lebanon.

For some, visiting Jim Thorpe this time of year is a tradition.

"My mom and my sisters, they lived in Virginia and we met here and we happened upon this festival that they have every year and just enjoyed it very much, the scenic train ride and how beautiful the town was, so now I've just made it a point to come back every year," said Mary Beth Hart of Auburn, New York, who brought her daughter for the festival.

"She's been coming for a couple years and every time she gets back, she doesn't stop talking about how beautiful it was, so I finally get to come so I can see it for myself. We just got here so all we've seen is the scenery, which has been beautiful. We've been reading the history of Jim Thorpe, which is interesting," said Sarah Hart.

The Foliage Fest runs this weekend and next in Jim Thorpe.
