EXETER -- A special strand of balloons turned some heads as it floated above the Wyoming Valley Tuesday afternoon.

"I think this is a great idea because it gets you excited to go to school,” said Richard Morris. “It gets you through the day because you can’t wait to do something fun like this."

Students at Wyoming Area Catholic School recited prayers before they released the rosary made with blue, white, and yellow balloons.

“We’re going to send a big balloon rosary into the sky and we’re going to pray,” said Dylan Burwell.

Seventh grader Christopher Latoski told Newswatch 16 that he and other students are praying for people across the world, and for their neighbors.

"It was really beautiful and like, our prayers are going to heaven so they can be answered,” said Latoski.

Dylan Burwell and other students say there's a lot to pray about, not just for help to cope with their own stress, but for others struggling around the world and in their own neighborhood.

"Our teachers always tell us to pray for them!"

After the prayers were recited, the students let go. The balloons floated over the Wyoming Valley. The wind took them toward Pittston, marking the feast of Our Lady of the Rosary.

"The children learn to love those things and love going to mass and praying the rosary, so we try to do it in a special way so that they could enjoy it," said Wyoming Area Catholic Principal Eileen Rishcoff.

School officials said this is the second time they’ve released the balloons to mark the Feast of Our Lady of the Rosary, and they said the balloons are biodegradable.
