BLOOMING GROVE TOWNSHIP -- State police held a news conference Friday afternoon updating us on the search for Eric Frein, the man they believe shot two state troopers three weeks ago, killing one and severely injuring another.

Search teams looking for suspected cop killer Eric Frein spread out through the Delaware State Forest on Friday near Cresco in Monroe County.

Troopers showed us a photo of what they believe was a campsite used by the accused cop killer.

State police say they found food, clothing, explosives, and ammunition at that campsite in the woods near the Monroe/Pike County line. They believe Frein's food supplies may be running low.

It was three weeks ago that Frein allegedly killed Corporal Bryon Dickson and wounded Trooper Alex Douglas in Pike County.

At the news conference, state police said they believe Frein left important items behind when they discovered a stash earlier this week.

Among the clothes, food, and explosives, police say they found 90 rounds of ammunition for a .308 rifle, the same weapon used in the ambush.

"One of the things that he seems to be surviving on predominantly are cans of tuna fish and ramen noodles," said Lt. Col. George Bivens, Deputy Commissioner of Operations, Pennsylvania State Police.

Also found at his campsite Tuesday were two pipe bombs. That prompted authorities to put hunting on hold in seven townships.

Now state police say if a hunter encounters Frein in the woods elsewhere they should try to call 911.

But if that's not possible, "In Pennsylvania if someone has reason to believe their life is in imminent danger, they have the ability and the right to protect themselves."

Ben Davis owns a hunting cabin in Promised Land and says he's not sure if he believes Frein really is hiding around these woods.

"They say he had it planned for two years, so he has a lot of places to hide. He could be hiding anywhere."

Authorities revealed other evidence of diapers nine days ago saying Frein may have been wearing them in the woods to avoid moving around.

They are not saying if DNA evidence confirms their theory.

Troopers also clarified that at no point in these past three weeks have they actually, with 100 percent certainty, put their eyes on their suspect.

"We have had some sightings that we place a high level of confidence. The only way to really confirm that is to have him in custody and ensure that, yes, that is Eric Frein," Lt. Col Bivens said. "It requires absolute positive identification, so for the fleeting second someone has sight of an individual, it may not be possible to positively identify him. I advise our troopers to use restraint. We don't want a shooting of the wrong individual. That's not what state police or any law enforcement are out here to do."

State police say they continue to focus their search in the same general area but have gone outside of that five-square mile area near Canadensis and Cresco to search areas Frein visited in the past.

They're even using ski poles and sticks to make sure they don't walk right by him in the brush.

State police also put out a warning to supermarkets and restaurants that Frein may be looking for food in dumpsters.

They ask businesses to check surveillance video to see if he has visited their location.
