Officials at a school district in Schuylkill County there say several buses have been slightly damaged over the past few days after being hit by unknown objects.

The North Schuylkill School District says it has notified area police and is asking for help from the public.

The small crack in this bus`s windshield doesn't appear to be a major problem.

But according to officials at the North Schuylkill School District, it`s one of several of the buses the district uses to be damaged in the past day.

“This is the fourth one, the fourth windshield that`s been damaged within the last day or two,” said Mary Richards, owner of Richards Bus Company, who contracts with the district.

School officials say the buses are being hit by unknown objects somewhere along Route 61 and suspect the buses are being intentionally targeted.

“We immediately called the local authorities and they started to investigate and they found out there were damages to the windshields of our buses, some nicks and chips put into the windshields,” said Superintendent Bob Ackell.

“There was a shattered window in the back of the bus and nobody but knew what happened so we were all confused and we had to sit in the front of the bus because we were scared the window was going to break,” said eighth grader Liz Harner.

The district says no students were harmed and bus service was not interrupted.

And school officials do not believe a firearm is being used to damage the buses.

Still they say police are taking this seriously.

“An act of vandalism, it didn't shut the buses down but we did have a police escort going home today,” said Richards.

“Down the highway and there was already 10 cops just sitting on the highway and in town there were cops set up, I guess they were just looking for the people who did it,” said senior Nathan Gadinski.

Parents say they`re pleased with the actions the district has taken.

“Something that buses or the school themselves or anything on the property that involves with the kids, then yeah, if they`re going to be driving in it, you know don`t know what could happen so absolutely,” said Angela Hannon.

If anyone has information on this vandalism, they are asked to call either Butler Township Police at (570) 875-4131 or the North Schuylkill School District Tip Hotline at (570) 874-0466 ext. 1847.
