MONTROSE -- A man from Susquehanna County found himself, along with two boys and some friends, stuck on a capsized boat, miles out at sea.

It happened over the weekend in Florida and dramatic video of the rescue is now getting national attention.

We talked to the Montrose native and his father about his boat flipping and his calls for help.

Video shows Jaren Catlin, a native of Montrose, clinging to the capsized boat off the Florida coast.

It shows his boat underwater in the Gulf of Mexico and him holding onto one of his boys and a friend on the boat's bottom, while another son and three adults held on to lifejackets and debris nearby.

"Everything kind of happened so quick. It was just something that we never expected to happen," Catlin recalled.

We talked with Catlin on the phone in Florida. He now lives in Fort Myers.

They were taking part in a youth fishing tournament.

It ended with the boat taking on water from the rough sea. Catlin said pumps that usually take care of that weren't working. In about a minute, the boat was flipping. He was able to message his wife, and she called 911.

"I don't know where, some place off Sanibel. Our boat capsized and there's three small kids on board," she said in her call to 911.

His sons are only 4 and 5 but he said the adults kept telling them this was just like being in a pool.

"Everybody stayed calm and it kind of kept the kids calm, just floating there. Nobody panicking really helped the kids," Catlin said.

Back here in Pennsylvania, Jaren's father Rex Catlin got a call while his son and grandsons were still stuck at sea.

Even knowing they're now safe, it's still tough for him to see this video.

"It's one thing to hear about it, it's another thing to watch it and the large waves and the seas."

But this rescue has a happy ending. Jaren Catlin even plans to return to the sea.

"We'll probably take a little bit of a break and then be out boating," Jaren said.

"He's very familiar with the area down there," added Rex. "He's very familiar with the water, but that's large water down there. No matter how experienced you are, things can happen."
