BARRETT TOWNSHIP -- Investigators have refocused their search efforts for Eric Frein Friday morning near an abandoned inn in Monroe County.

The manhunt for Eric Frein sent SWAT teams and other investigators into an old hotel, a place with an unusual history.

Investigators this morning surrounded the vacant Buck Hill Inn near Canadensis.

It's a place troopers say accused killer Eric Frein used to visit in the past and it's also a place that's been featured on some cable TV shows about paranormal events.

State police are still trying to track down Eric Frein, the man accused of killing one state trooper and injuring another two weeks ago tonight.

The search area remains focused on Price and Barrett Townships with the perimeter now reaching the village of Mountainhome.

The area surrounds Frein's home in Canadensis where police say he lived with his parents, and this morning the search expanded into that old hotel known as the Buck Hill Inn.

In the community known as Buck Hill Falls sits the Buck Hill Inn where this morning 12 SWAT teams and countless of other investigators fanned out searching for Frein.

State police say there have been no sightings of Frein at the inn but he has been known to visit the vacant hotel in the past.

This is not the first time law enforcement officers have searched this historic hotel, according to those close to the investigation.

It's a place in Barrett Township that's been the target of vandals, ghost hunters, and now for the man named as one of America's most wanted.

Susan Berry lives close by and noticed her neighborhood covered in police activity while out for her morning walk.

"I really don't think he's there. I think he's hiding in the woods somewhere," Berry said. "It would be much more uncomfortable being in there, the temperature, than I think then he's used to."

Another hot spot for police overnight was nearby Price Township and the woods surrounding Snow Hill Road outside Canadensis.

As the search efforts continue, state police tell us they are still using K9 units hoping to track Frein's scent. However, that scent is often lost when the dogs get to water crossings.

Despite so much man power which investigators say hasn't dwindled since day one, Eric Frein the man accused of ambushing two state troopers, killing one of them, remains on the run.

What we know about the Buck Hill Inn:

  • Closed in 1990
  • In 2000, MTV filmed an episode of the show "FEAR" at the Buck Hill Inn, making it appear to be haunted.
  • In 2003, a fire wrecked part of the inn. Three men were charged with setting the fire.
  • In 2005, John Styk became the caretaker of the property. Since then, he and the police department have been keeping track of how many people have been trespassing and vandalizing the property. As of 2010, 336 arrests have been made.
  • Two men were arrested earlier this year for trespassing and stealing from the place.
