BLOOMSBURG -- The early morning rain in Columbia County did not wash out peoples plans to come to the Bloomsburg Fair.

In fact, Elizabeth Auman of Danville says rainy days are the best days at the fair.

"You can get through the whole fair in half the time. All the buildings are empty so you can actually see stuff. You can get under the grandstand and around the grandstand and see everything under there," Auman said.

Attendance was low at the fair while it was raining, but the Fisher family of Orwigsburg was ready for the weather -- ponchos and all.

"He took one day off and this is it so this is the day we had to come," Sandy Fisher said.

Other people took shelter inside and looked at the exhibits while it rained.

"We usually come down for three days with the motor home and at least one of those days it rains every year. So we're used to it. We know how to schedule our time, like today we're doing the buildings while it's raining," Gary Marcho said.

"I can sit in the bingo. It doesn't rain in the bingo," Fisher said.

One group of people who are not happy when it rains is the vendors because they say less people bring less business.

Fair officials say around 40,000 people have been coming to the fair each day this week, but when it rains, those numbers are a lot lower. The vendors say they feel the hit.

"We're hoping after everything clears up that it will pick back up again. Otherwise the weather has been great, business has been great and it definitely cuts things down on everybody," Tammy Weaver said.

Luckily the rain didn't last very long and once the sun came out, more people came to the fair, so business seemed to pick up.
