SCRANTON -- A trial in Lackawanna County may challenge a state law that bars weapons from school properties.
At the beginning of last school year, a mother and father visited the Scranton School District administration building to complain about the district's uniform policy.
The father, William Giordano of Scranton, was carrying a sword on his belt. According to court paperwork, school employees said Giordano became unruly and yelled at people in the superintendent's office. Giordano was asked to stop wearing the sword, but he refused, citing his second amendment right. He came back the next day, again wearing the sword.
The second amendment is expected to be Giordano's main defense when he stands trial next week. He's charged with bringing a weapon onto school property and disorderly conduct.
We reached out to William Giordano for comment, but we never heard back.
His trial on disorderly conduct charges was postponed Wednesday morning because the judge said the jury may have been influenced by media reports.
Giordano is now set to stand trial next week. A new jury will be selected on Monday.
