BLOOMSBURG -- It costs $8 to get into the Bloomsburg Fair but that doesn't include parking, which is $5.

Some folks who live near the fairgrounds are trying to make some money by charging people to park on their properties.

The signs are hard to miss as you drive by the Bloomsburg Fairgrounds.

Dozens of people who live and work in Bloomsburg spend fair week trying to make some extra money by charging people money to park on their properties.

Shane Wright lives just outside the fairgrounds.

"I take a week off here and park cars."

Wright says he and his brother-in-law usually park around 50 cars a day during the fair. At $5 a car, you do the math!

"Most people, they enjoy parking here to walk right through the gate. They buy tickets in advance and then park here and walk in," Wright said.

Tatum Miller owns a business near the fairgrounds. She uses her parking lot for fair parking.

"It's definitely a way to make extra money. My employees, we take turns. I park during the day and my other employee parks during the night."

The Wenner family of White Haven took advantage of the closer parking.

"Today we opted to go for something more paved, cleaner, a little closer to the main event," said Ken Wenner.

It costs the same amount of money to park in the main parking lot at the Bloomsburg Fair, but you're a lot farther away from the entrance, which requires a lot more walking.

"It's muddy in the parking areas, and today we have a stroller and the little one here and we didn't want to go through all that dust," Wenner said.

Some people say they sometimes spend more than 14 hours a day parking cars but they also say it's worth it.
