BARRETT TOWNSHIP -- As the days drag on in the search for Eric Frein, many members of the communities in Monroe County caught in the middle of all the police activity want officers to know they stand behind the men in blue.

Blue ribbons were being posted all along the areas where state police have been camped out for days.

Dozens of people in the Cresco and Canadensis areas of Monroe County came out to hang those ribbons along with American flags to show police they are grateful for all the hard work they are doing.

“We live here so we're all very impacted by the last 10 or 11 days and just wanted to show our support for the police and everything that they're doing to keep us safe while they're spending 24 hours a day doing some really tough work,” said Annelise Taylor of Cresco.

The man hunt for Eric Frein continues into day 12 with the search focusing heavily on Price and Barrett Townships, which surround Cresco and Canadensis.

The search forced some residents to leave their homes for a short time, causing frustrations.

Kimberly Stephens organized the ribbon hanging because she wants state police to know the community supports everything that they have to do.

“If they`re here I feel safer. I think everybody feels that way and I know, I understand some people are upset being out of their house for a couple of days,” said Stephens. “[These officers] have been without their families for 12 days. I think that`s worse.”

Stephens works at The Pour House restaurant on Route 390 in Cresco and had people meet there to divide up roughly 300 ribbons to hang around the community.

“I grew up, my father was in law enforcement so it`s scary and it was always scary for my dad to come home and I just want to support everybody else because I know how hard they`re working and they're putting their life on the line every day,” said Josh Labar of Mountainhome.

“Just show support for the hundreds of police officers that are out here all day, all night, in the cold, in the rain last week,” said Chris Curtin of Mountainhome.
