UPDATE AT 2:45 P.M. -- A State Police spokeswoman issued the following statement on Saturday afternoon:

"As you know, PSP and other law enforcement officers have responded to the area of Barrett/Price Townships, Monroe County to conduct a search for Eric Matthew Frein. Due to the violent nature of his crimes, extreme precautionary measures are being taken. The PA State Police are very concerned for the safety of the community so we are continuing to ask people to shelter in place in these townships. PSP does not have Frein in custody, however our troopers are determined to find him and bring him to justice."

So far, no news conference has been scheduled for Saturday.

BARRETT TOWNSHIP – Monroe County 911 officials said an emergency order issued last night for Barrett and Price Townships is still in effect this morning.

Emergency dispatchers said residents are being urged to stay inside their homes, lock their doors and stay away from windows in that rural area of the Poconos.

Troopers are expected to release new details later this morning, following reports that gunshots were heard in a neighborhood near Route 447 in Barrett Township last night.

Volunteers at the Barrett Township Fire Department said eight people spent the night at a shelter because they could not make it home due to numerous road blocks.

Anyone with information or possible sightings of Eric Frein is urged to call the tipline at 866-326-7256.
