Food Truck Fundraiser for Trooper

SCRANTON -- Leading up to Thursday, when fallen Pennsylvania State Trooper Corporal Dickson will be laid to rest in Lackawanna County where he lived, organizations are finding ways to raise money for his memorial fund.

A popular food truck from Lackawanna County will donate a portion of their lunch sales this week to Cpl. Bryon Dickson's family.

The What The Fork food truck is typically busy in downtown Scranton during the week, but Newswatch 16 found Tuesday that there were even more customers coming out specifically to support the fallen trooper.

The owners of What The Fork thought part of the proceeds from their ever-popular pork tacos might not be a lot, but it was the least they could do for the fallen trooper from Lackawanna County.

Regular customers came up to the truck near the University of Scranton and learned about the fundraiser.

"I feel good about that. I didn't really understand what this was all about, but I'm so happy I was able to help," said Bernie Ross of Clarks Summit.

Other customers, like Liza Pfaeffle of Lake Ariel, came for lunch at the food truck just to donate a dollar to Cpl. Dickson's memorial fund.

"This is an easy one, just come down and get something good to eat!" Pfaeffle said.

"We had to do something about it. We like to play a big role in the community. We have such a big following on Facebook and social media, we thought this was a great way to raise some money for a great cause," said Maria Magnotta, an employee of What The Fork.

One donating customer gave the What The Fork workers blue ribbons to honor the fallen trooper. The workers will wear them all week as the fundraiser continues.

They plan to donate one dollar for every pork taco sold.

"We didn't hear until we came down here, but once we came down here we were happy to donate, we wanted to try the pork tacos because of it," added Katie DiPlacido, a University of Scranton student.

A taco and a dollar. Not much, but the customers say, too, it's the least they can do to support someone who was sworn to protect.

"They're great people, and they support the community, and they look out for all of us. It's bad. We don't want anything to happen to them," Pfaeffle added.

What The Fork will be raising money for the Cpl. Bryon Dickson memorial fund through their sales all this week. You can find out where they'll be on the What The Fork" Facebook and Twitter pages.
