CLINTON TOWNSHIP -- Cooler weather is a good reminder that autumn is right around the corner and soon many families will be taking a hay ride at the pumpkin patch.

Workers at Green Barn Berry Farm near Muncy are gathering pumpkins that are ripe for the picking.

"You want it to be on the dry side, but you also need that rain, too, because you want to plump them up and get them nice and big for everybody," said Robyn Schreiber.

There are already baskets of pumpkins and squash out in front of the family's farm.

"The field looks great. Everything has that wonderful fall color in it," said Schreiber.

Schreiber said the farm's crop of acorn squash didn't survive the growing season, so her family's farm won't be selling it. However, there will be plenty of pumpkins plump for the picking.

"Mother nature tends to dictate what we get and what we don't get," said Schreiber.

While this farm has to worry about the weather for all of their pumpkins, it's also apple picking season. The Green Barn Berry Farm said they buy apples from a farm down the road.

Ray Marshalek helps bag apples at his fruit farm near Montoursville.

"It's definitely apple time. It is apple season now," said Marshalek.

The trees are overflowing with apples. Marshalek said they will pick the apples soon and ship them off to local grocery stores and businesses.

"It's time to get them off before they get over ripe, so we don't lose storability," said Marshalek.

As for Schreiber, she said families are welcome to pick pumpkins and other crops right from her farm.

“Just the tradition of the fall season, coming to the local farm and enjoying the experience," said Schreiber.

Schreiber said there will also be hay rides to the pumpkin patch on the farm in early October.
