WILKES-BARRE-- People came out to walk for suicide prevention in Luzerne County.

The eighth annual "Out of the Darkness" Walk was held at Kirby Park this afternoon in Wilkes-Barre by The American Foundation for Suicide Prevention.

The three to five mile walk is held every fall across the name to prevent suicide and raise awareness.

Organizers say that half of all the money raised at the walk stays in Northeast PA for suicide prevention and support.  The remaining money goes to the national organization to:

Educate the public about mental disorders and suicide prevention
Fund scientific research
Promote policies and legislation that impact suicide and prevention
Provide programs and resources for survivors of suicide loss and people at risk, and involve them in the work of the Foundation
