BUFFALO TOWNSHIP -- Troopers are looking for the person who stole about $16,000 worth of rims and tires from a farm equipment business in Union County.
Three trucks sat with missing tires in the holding lot across the street from Pik Rite near Lewisburg. The company makes water tanks and farming equipment.
State police said late last month someone came in and pulled brand new tires and rims worth roughly $16,000 right off the trucks owned by Pik Rite customers.
"A little disbelief at first, but then I was upset with the loss from the company and the insecurity you feel from it," said Kevin Baker with Pik Rite.
Surveillance video from Pik Rite's cameras shows a light colored truck with a white box trailer pulling into the parking lot around 1 a.m. on August 24.
"Jacked up some of our equipment, took wheels and tires off, left some blocking in place, and drove off with it," Baker said.
Manager Tim Lightner said no one noticed the tires were missing for several days.
"Just happened to be looking across. One of the employees noticed that something looked funny with one of the chassis," Lightner said.
In all Lightner said the thieves got away with 17 tires and rims. He said they tried to get two more, but they weren't able to pull them off the chassis. Each one of the tires costs $1,100.
"Financially we will recover. We are a strong company, but we're going to be smarter about what we do around here," Baker said.
Pik Rite has insurance, but it will still cost the company about $1,500 to replace the tires.
In the mean time, the company is considering putting up a fence around the trucks.
"It does give us some thought on what how to change what we do. How we present things here and how we can be more secure moving forward," said Baker.
Pik Rite hopes to have the tires replaced within the week.
