DALTON --  An event to honor a fallen soldier from Lackawanna County grows each year.

Sunday morning, about 500 bikers took part in the seventh annual Sgt. Jan Argonish Ride.

The ride is in honor of Sgt. Jan Argonish from Scranton who was killed while fighting in Afghanistan in 2007.

Though rain threatened this year's ride, Jan's dad said his son made sure they rode.

"And everyone was afraid it was going to rain and 'we're not taking the bikes out, we're not going to ride.' And then all of a sudden the sun comes out and I looked down there and I could have cried. You saw all of the bikes leave," said  Mike Argonish, Sgt. Argonish's father.

All 500 bikes left Dalton and rode throughout Lackawanna County, not just in memory of Jan, but also for the soldiers still fighting today.

"I never had the pleasure of meeting Jan,  year after year after year," said Hilary Steinberg, Sgt. Jan Argonish Ride Committee.

The ride raises money for veteran's organizations each year. This year, the money raised will in part go towards homeless vets in northeastern Pennsylvania.

"It's about helping the people that we can help, in Jan's name," said Mike Argonish.

They raise money, and they ride because organizers said that's what their fallen soldier would have wanted them to do.
