COOLBAUGH TOWNSHIP -- Police in the Poconos are still searching for a man who they say attacked his family with a machete.
It all started around 7 a.m. Wednesday as a domestic dispute in Pocono Farms East near Tobyhanna.
Pocono Mountain Regional Police say Paul Brown attacked his wife and 19-year-old son with a machete. There's a warrant out for his arrest on charges including attempted homicide.
SWAT teams worked for hours in Pocono Farms East near Tobyhanna trying to locate a man who they believe attacked his wife and son with a machete.
Brown was arguing with his wife inside their home and his 19-year-old son tried to intervene. The mother and son were able to escape, but were badly hurt by Brown, who attacked them with a machete, according to police.
"They were suffering from multiple injuries including lacerations, deep scalp lacerations, and an amputation," said Pocono Mountain Regional Police Chief Chris Wagner.
Dianna Brown had one of her fingers cut off. She was able to run to a neighbor for help. Blood stains still mark the front steps.
Trish Tucker has lived in Pocono Farms East for about 10 years. She came home from work to see a police barricade less than a block away.
"It's a very nice community, very family-oriented, very quiet," Tucker said.
Officers believed Paul Brown was inside this home and carefully approached, using the SWAT team and an armored truck. Hours later they determined Brown wasn't there.
Neighbors say they're worried where he might be.
"Lock your doors when you're not home, or even if you're taking a walk, lock doors."
Officers say Paul Brown is wanted on attempted criminal homicide and other charges.
Police also say the family had just moved in within the past month and are originally from the West Indies.
They do not believe he drives, and are asking neighbors in Pocono Farms East to keep a close eye out for anything suspicious.
The two victims were taken to a hospital in Scranton to be treated.
Nearby schools in the Pocono Mountain district have decided to hold all students who live in Pocono Farms East until a parent can pick them up.
