SCRANTON -- The new and improved Electric City sign debuted during a popular festival in downtown Scranton.

Organizers of La Festa Italiana flipped the switch on the newly refurbished sign Saturday night.

The festival donated $10,000 to replace the old bulbs in the sign with new LED's.

The company that worked on the sign got the blueprints for the original sign that was made in the 1930s, and put in the red, green, white, and amber bulbs to match the original.

La Festa Italiana takes place every Labor Day weekend and continues through Monday on Courthouse Square in Scranton.

It is beautiful. To me it is a tribute to what a group of dedicated citizens can do when the government cannot.
