TUNKHANNOCK TOWNSHIP -- The second annual Cornstock Folk Festival kicked off Friday in Wyoming County.
If the folk festival Lazy Brook Park seems familiar, it's because Cornstock organizers were inspired by another music-filled weekend in Tunkhannock Township.
"We came to the NEPA bluegrass festival here in June and we thought it was the absolute most beautiful location for a music festival and I said we have to do our own festival here," said Jillian Hannigan, a co-organizer of the Cornstock festival.
Organizers expect more than 1,000 people to either camp out or stop by the folk festival.
"Oh, they're just the best people! It takes a very special kind of person to come to a musical festival and enjoy themselves," said Michelle Layton from Dillsburg.
Many people are attending the festival because they want to see Lazy Brook Park and all the things it has to offer.
"We love this park, it's beautiful. We love the stream, it's really a nice place to be," said Nancy Fleming from Lake Winola.
As for the vendors, they're hoping business is good and that mother nature plays along.
"I heard that it was going to be 75,80 degrees, nice and sunny and it's going to be a fun festival weekend," said Gary Star, a vendor from Tannersville.
This year, the festival will host free music lessons.
"You can come, bring your mandolin, guitar, banjo and you can sit with a pro who's going to show you some stuff," said Hannigan.
Even those who don't play an instrument said it's still a good time.
Also, kids under 16 can get in for free all weekend long.
"We want to really spread this music to children so it lasts forever," said Hannigan.
The Cornstock Folk Festival runs through Sunday.
