SOUTH WILLIAMSPORT — Little League Baseball is marking a milestone: its 75th anniversary.
Virginia Bartron from Cogan Station stood by the fence with her grandson as they watched the southwest region team practice at the batting cage at the Little League World Series International Complex in South Williamsport.
“It’s so awesome that this is here.”
For Bartron and plenty of other Little League fans, coming to the game and meeting the players is huge. Bartron grew up in Williamsport and she’s been coming to the Little League World Series since she was young.
“We would walk over every day,” she recalled.
Bartron said she’s watched the complex and the league get bigger every year.
“I never ever thought when I was growing up that it would grow this big,” Bartron said.
This year, Little League celebrates a milestone.
“I can’t believe it’s been 75 years. It’s been awesome.”
“We are so proud to have been an important part of communities around the world for the past 75 years.”
A lot of fans and players collect pins every year, so of course, they had one made especially for the 75th anniversary. There are also a lot of other things folks can get at the gift shop to help them celebrate the milestone.
“New graphics and signs and a lot more color here than you have seen in years past.”
Little League says special guests and events will take place on the field all week long to help commemorate 75 years but it’s also written on uniforms and all over the complex.
“Facilities change every year. Little League is always doing something to make it bigger and better.”
The Little League World Series begins with the Grand Slam Parade on Wednesday at 6:30 p.m. and WNEP will broadcast the parade live on WNEP2 and wnep.com.
