Guilty Plea From Aide Accused Of Providing Abortion Drug

guilty

DANVILLE — A primary care aide* from Montour County has pleaded guilty to doing an abortion without a medical license.

Jennifer Whalen of Washingtonville entered the plea on Monday.

According to court papers, Whalen ordered abortion pills online from overseas in 2012 and gave them to a 16-year-old girl.

The girl took the pills and had a miscarriage.

Whalen was charged in 2013.

*9/8/14 — A previous version of this story mistakenly referred to Jennifer Whalen as a nurse. The story also included a graphic with the words “Registered Nurse Charged.” According to her attorney, Whalen is not a licensed nurse of any kind, but instead works as a primary care aide at a nursing home. Newswatch 16 regrets the error and apologizes for any confusion.

Being a nurse myself, I just checked on the Pennsylvania State Board of Nursing website to verify a Nursing license. There is no one listed by that name listed in the entire state of Pennsylvania for nursing, RN or LPN. So how do you know she was a nurse? Even if her license was suspended, revoked or had any type of disciplinary against it, it still would be listed there to verify. Was she licensed in another state? Were the facts checked that she was an RN before this story was broadcasted or published? There is no one with the last name Whalen licensed for anything in the state of PA from Washingtonville, PA. The PA State Board of Nursing has to be notified of any name changes or address changes.
