TROY -- A young couple were found dead after a fire in a home in Bradford County.

Authorities say the smoke and flames spread quickly and the fire left behind a lot of damage.

The fire started just before 1:30 a.m. Monday and two people inside the house were not able to make it out alive.

Friends and neighbors say the couple recently celebrated their first wedding anniversary and were about to adopt their first child.

The Bradford County coroner confirms two people were found dead inside this house after the fire Monday morning on Canton Street in Troy.

Friends and neighbors identify the young couple as Brandon and Katie Evans.

UPDATE: On Tuesday, the coroner confirmed the identities of the victims: Brandon, 26, and Katie Evans, 22. Both died from carbon monoxide poisoning due to smoke inhalation.

People gathered outside the house on Canton Street in troy And all they could do was watch as smoke and flames took over.

"I got up, got dressed, came downstairs, looked out my kitchen window and I could see the flames," said neighbor Harold Caldwell.

The fire started just before 1:30 a.m. Monday and two people inside the house were not able to make it out alive.

The Bradford County coroner is still waiting on dental records before releasing the identities of those two people, but friends and neighbors identify the young couple as Brandon and Katie Evans.

Neighbor Kristin Lawrence says the couple celebrated their first wedding anniversary last month and were in the process of adopting a baby girl.

"His mother had said that it would happen sometime in November, so thank goodness that was before the baby came along," Lawrence said.

Neighbor Harold Caldwell says the couple had just moved in to the house.

"They had spent countless hours refurbishing the interior, he and his dad, and they had just bought it. They just closed on it."

The Bradford County coroner has not said what caused the couple's deaths. He would only confirm the bodies of the young couple were found inside the house after the fire.

A state police fire marshal ruled the fire as undetermined but believes it started in the front of the house.

"With everything that's been going on with them exciting wise, this is just heartbreaking to hear," said Courtney Steckiel of Troy.

Autopsies were done Monday but the Bradford County coroner doesn't expect to have the results until Tuesday or Wednesday and that's when he will release the cause of death.
