FACTORYVILLE -- People came together in one community to honor Hall of Fame baseball pitcher and Factoryville native Christy Mathewson.

Saturday morning's 6k run/walk was one of the highlights of the 19th annual Christy Mathewson Days in Factoryville.

The celebration took place at Keystone College, Mathewson's alma mater, and at the park that bears his name.

"He was noted not only for his baseball ability, but also for being a gentleman and a person who was interested not only in the game of baseball, but baseball fans as well," said Fran Calpin, Keystone College spokesperson.

A parade was also held to celebrate the event. Festivities continued Saturday evening at Christy Mathewson Park.

This is a great celebration each year in honor of baseball’s Gentleman and, a great way of teaching today’s youth about the game before steroids and inflated salaries. When baseball was played for the love of the game.
