It's time to tee it up. "Swing and hit."
50 girl golfers mixed in with some boy's from the LPGA Girl's golf of Scranton Pocono played 9 holes each with members of the Shadowbrook ladies Thursday night league. The girl's age range 7 to 17. This event culminates a summer filled with lessons and learning.
"We started this three years ago when we only had 18 kids and the ladies league was disappointed that there wasn't enough kids for all the ladies to share. Last year we went to 30 kids this year we got 50," said Terry Wise.
"It's great fun to try to give them some of the rules of the game, and just have fun with it. You know growing up-learning they just have so much enthusiasm," said Joann Shaw.
This is the 3rd season for this group pairing up with the Thursday night Shadowbrook ladies league two women pair up with two girls they learn a little bit about the game of golf and they have fun.
"This is a really good experience and I'm so happy that I've been able to do this. This is my 3rd year doing this and I'm so happy at how it's turned out," said Maggie Flynn.
"Is this a lot of fun for you? Yes! And what are you learning when you are playing? I learn how to drive, how to putt, and I learn lots of other things," said Mia Michel.
"We'll they teach you a lot about driving, putting, and chipping and stuff and it's a lot of fun and I'm happy to be with it," said Gianna Cafarella.
Collin Hopkins is the Director of Golf Operations at Shadowbrook. He says the waiting list to get into this program is growing.
"It's all about the kids and this is fantastic. I mean we got 50 plus kids.
And we have a waiting list which is just unreal. We run a junior golf camp in the middle of the summer and this is doubled it actually," said Collin Hopkins.
Selena Cerra played golf in high-school at Holy Cross and is enjoying a nice career at Niagara. She joined the LPGA girl's golf of Scranton Pocono when she was 8.
"It's a beautiful opportunity for young girl's to get into a sport that they can play for the rest of their lives and it's paid off for me I have a scholarship now," said Selena Cerra.
