LAMAR TOWNSHIP-- There is a new main stage for entertainment at the Clinton County Fair this year but, fair board members hope the community can use the stage all year round.

Some vendors were not quite open by midday when Newswatch 16 stopped by the Clinton County Fair. It was quiet for the most part.

Jana Carson of Jersey Shore was eating lunch with her family when Newswatch 16 met her at the fair near Mill Hall. She said most people come at night.

"That's when it gets really busy," Carson said.

Some vendors were getting food ready for the expected crowds as sound engineers were setting up equipment at the main stage, a new addition to the fairgrounds.

"It was finished about two weeks ago and our fair started last Saturday," said Dick Forshey, the fair manager.

Forshey said they started building the new stage last year.

"It was constructed entirely by volunteer labor, from fair members and fair board members," said Forshey.

The new stage has some dressing rooms in the back, plus public and private bathrooms.

"I think it makes a lot better showcase or stage for the entertainment." said Ed Peiffer, board president.

With all the new space including a back room with air conditioning and heat, they hope they can rent it out all year long.

"It would be nice to have a venue or site where people could gather and have meetings." said Carson.

"I even had a guy tell me it would be a nice place for a wedding," said Forshey.

Donations helped pay for the new main stage that cost around $100,000. The Clinton County Fair runs until August 9th at the fairgrounds along Route 220.
