Hip Replacement Surgery For Bishop

UPDATE TUESDAY: — The hip replacement surgery on Bishop Ronald Gainer was successful.

Bishop Gainer expects to be discharged from the hospital within a few days. He hopes to resume a part-time schedule in about a month, following physical rehabilitation.

HARRISBURG — The Diocese of Harrisburg says Bishop Ronald Gainer will undergo hip replacement surgery on Tuesday.

Bishop Gainer, 66, is a native of Schuylkill County. He hopes to be back to work in a month.

The Diocese of Harrisburg covers 15 counties including Snyder, Union, Northumberland, Columbia and Montour.

Bishop Gainer was named by Pope Francis earlier this year to take over the Diocese of Harrisburg following the death of Bishop Joseph McFadden in May of 2013.
