Work To Replace Stolen Wire Underway

DELANO TOWNSHIP -- PPL workers were out in Schuylkill County Friday, replacing copper wire swiped from a power line.

Authorities said PPL crews discovered about 2,500 to 3,000 feet  of copper wire -- $20,000 worth -- stolen from a main power line network along Interstate 81 near Mahanoy City.

Investigators think it was taken sometime between Tuesday and Thursday.

Anybody with information is asked call state police in Schuykill County.

    The salvage yards and recycling centers are complicit in these thefts. No one legitimately has that much copper to sell/recycle. At the minimum, a driver’s license, photo, and thumbprint should be required to sell copper or bronze.
