Crew From PA Keeps ARCA Team on the Track

POCONO RACEWAY -- Before NASCAR hits the track for the GoBowling.com 400 this Sunday, the ARCA cars will race at the Tricky Triangle Friday evening.

Newswatch 16 went into the pits for a behind-the-scenes look at one crew whose members all come from right here in the Keystone State.

As dozens of cars get ready for Friday's ARCA race at Pocono Raceway, driver Bobby Gerhart of the number 5 car said racing at the Tricky Triangle is something he always looks forward to.

"Coming here is nice, it's like coming home, you know? I've been here probably longer than most employees," he said.

Gerhart is from Lebanon County, only about 100 miles south of the track.

Every crew member happens to be from PA, too.

"Hellertown, Bobby and I are from Lebanon, Randy is from Lebanon, and we have a couple from Harrisburg," said crew member Logan Yiengst.

Most of these guys volunteer their time and have done so from a young age.

"I started coming here when I was about 5 years old and I'm 26 now."

Paul Skibo of Hellertown has been doing this for 20-some years.

Why?

"To win, to do good and win, you know? It gives you a good feeling of accomplishment."

Although the Gerhart team considers the raceway at Pocono to be their home track and they've had more than 50 starts here, they said the Tricky Triangle doesn't bring them any advantages.

"It's your home track and you really want to do good here and make a good showing," said Skibo.

They said this track can be tricky and where this team finishes depends mostly on the car.

Gerhart said his PA crew hopes to pull out a good finish this weekend, a crew Gerhart said he can always rely on.

"Whether it's help me at my shop, load my truck, I've been kind of blessed and I think that's one of the things I like about Pennsylvania."

The ARCA race begins at 5:15 p.m. Friday.
