EATON TOWNSHIP -- A man missing for more than 24 hours in Wyoming County was found following a search by rescue teams and volunteers

A small army was in the woods, just across the river from Tunkhannock, in Eaton Township looking for Ken Lewis, 83, who has Alzheimer's disease and hearing problems.

Searchers found Lewis shortly after the search resumed at 10:30 a.m.

According to state police, Lewis left his home on Cabin Road in Eaton Township late Monday afternoon to clear some brush and take his dog for a walk. The dog returned home. Lewis did not.

On Tuesday morning, dozens of volunteers gathered for a briefing and a meeting on procedure at Triton Fire Company, along Route 6 in Tunkhannock, where they learned how the search will be divided up, and who has responsibilities for aspects of the search.

After that meeting, it was across the river to the area around Lewis's home. Searchers were on foot, ATVs, and a state police helicopter was in the air.

They said Lewis was found walking along the bank of the Susquehanna River, dehydrated but safe.

Sgt. Andrew Wilk of the Pennsylvania State Police said the search for Ken Lewis was not easy.

"It's difficult because it's a large wooded area. There's a lot of different items that we have to be concerned with. There's a bunch of ponds, there's some fields, so it's going to take a lot of people to do a good search."

The search started Monday night. It was called off at 4:30 a.m. Tuesday and resumed around 10:30 a.m.
