OLD FORGE -- This week, PennDOT started a patching project on a few miles of road that have been damaging tires and pushing buttons for drivers in Taylor and Old Forge.
Months after they were formed, potholes in that part of Lackawanna County are finally being fixed.
Potholes in the so-called "pizza capital of the world" have been a subject of gripes. Since, on any given Saturday night, Main Street in Old Forge looks more like a busy city than a sleepy borough.
People who travel to Old Forge for the pizza were happy to see a PennDOT crew at work on Main Street.
Servers at Arcaro & Genell restaurant have heard the complaints for months, so a patching crew outside their doors was a welcome sight.
They worked their way down Main Street starting in neighboring Taylor and plan to patch all the way to the Luzerne County line.
"It'll be like back to the little town that it is. Still a lot of traffic, but no detours, no potholes, no swerving. A much safer area," Amanda Genell said.
Chatter in pizza shops isn't the only way people in Lackawanna County's down-valley have been sounding off about the condition of their Main Street.
Hundreds of comments on a Facebook page belonging to an Old Forge council member caught the attention of PennDOT officials.
PennDOT decided to expand the patching project and fill in more potholes than they intended on other state roads in the borough.
Crews will work on those potholes over the next few days.
