BERLIN TOWNSHIP — A crash in Wayne County Friday night left a man from Beach Lake dead.

State police say Charles Gabriel, 62, died at the hospital following the crash on Route 652 in Berlin Township near Honesdale.

According to troopers, it was about 11:45 p.m. Friday when Gabriel lost control on a curve and crossed into oncoming traffic.

His pickup hit a car driven by Andrew Steffens of Honesdale. Four children were also in the car.

Troopers say Gabriel was not wearing a seat belt. He was flown to Geisinger near Wilkes-Barre, where he died.

State police say Steffens and the four children were wearing seat belts. They were all taken to hospitals to be treated for injuries described as moderate to minor.

that road sucks too much. Anyone who’s driven it knows you don’t take your eyes off that road for a second or something bad could happen – deer runs out, there’s a tractor around a corner…whatever it is. Its a shame this happened, but people need to slow down.

Agreed, I was on the road this week-end for hours and in 3 different states, and I lost count of the number of careless drivers. I am not saying this man was careless, but there are also the OTHER drivers who are. Under certain conditions, people need to slow down!
