SHAMOKIN -- One city in Northumberland County capped off a celebration of its 150th anniversary.

Lots of folks came out to Independence Street in Shamokin for all sorts of entertainment on Saturday.

There was a parade and bands played for the crowd.

Organizers helped pay for the event by selling items that mark the 150th anniversary of the city.

People said they loved getting together to celebrate the milestone.

"My favorite part is looking around and seeing all the community and neighbors out here having a blast. Just spirit, band, beer, America," said retired U.S. Army Captain Mark Little.

"It's an honor to be from Shamokin and you would have not believed this town in the '40s and '50s. I'm an old, ancient guy and on a Friday evening the town was so busy, they had to have traffic cops direct the traffic," said Marty Winnick of Shamokin.

Miss Pennsylvania was also on hand, as well as U.S. Winter Olympian Jason Terdiman from Berwick.

The big bash in Shamokin also had a car raffled off.

A fireworks show is set for Saturday night as well.
